Veneers are not much different from your own teeth in terms of keeping them in good shape. If you would like some tips of how to care for them, we can give you some right here.
Staining can be a big issue, but not always. If you have porcelain veneers, they do not stain very easily. If you have composite resin veneers, then you might want to avoid foods that stain. Some of the foods and drinks that can stain veneers, and teeth too, are coffee, red wine, berries, and pasta sauce. You can ask our dentist what other foods might cause staining.
This does not mean that you must never eat or drink these items. Staining mostly comes after prolonged exposure to these foods, and you can brush shortly after eating or drinking them to help prevent staining.
Even though veneers cover your teeth, you should still follow standard oral health guidelines. You should still brush and floss your teeth regularly and visit the dentist semi-annually. Besides, the dentist can help you maintain your veneers.
Should your veneers lose their white color, you can have the dentist help you there as well. Methods for teeth whitening that you can do at home will not work on the veneers.
Veneers can also be broken. While you can replace them, there are ways you can avoid this. In fact, the following tips are good for your natural teeth too.
Best to wear a mouthguard while playing sports. If you have a tendency to grind your teeth while you sleep, wearing a mouthguard at night can protect your veneers from breaking. Also, avoid chewing on ice and overly hard foods. Finally, try not to use your teeth for manual tasks, such as opening things.
